In March, freight tonne kilometres soared 14 percent year-on-year and available freight tonne kilometres rose 4.2 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2016, according to International Air Transport Association (IATA).

With the exception of Latin America, all regions reported growth in demand for the period under review, with airlines in the Middle East reporting a 16.3 percent increase in freight volume in March and a 2.7 percent boost in capacity.

Alexandre de Juniac, CEO, IATA, commented, “March capped a robust first quarter with the strongest year-on-year air freight growth in six-and-a-half years. […] It remains critical to use the improvement in the industry’s fortunes as an opportunity to enhance the value offering by implementing modern customer-centric initiatives that streamline processes and reduce costs.”
