South Africa Boasts MICE Credentials

Derek Hanekom, tourism minister, South Africa, outlined how the country, as a world-class business events destination,

will respond to the next decade in the face of rising interest.

Speaking at ibtm world in Barcelona, Hanekom highlighted that the African continent hosted 124 international association conferences in 2014, attracting some 70,000 industry professionals. Of these conferences, 81 percent were international rotating events.

Looking to the future, South Africa National Convention Bureau has already secured 163 bids for the period between 2016 – 2020, from sectors as diverse as mining, health and agriculture, which collectively are expected to bring over 150,000 delegates to the destination.
