Flight diversions and network disruptions due to unauthorised drone activity in the airspace around Dubai International cost Emirates a large sum of money on each occasion, and also impact thousands of passengers.

There have been three separate incidents since June involving the closure of airspace at the airport due to such incidents.

The affected Emirates flights diverted to other airports in the UAE, resulting in major delays.

The knockon effect of the airspace closure impacted two later itineraries of the airline which also had to be diverted while the world's busiest international airport worked to restore normal schedules.
