Roche started his career in 1985 with French domestic carrier, Air Littoral. He then joined Air Inter Fret in 1989 and held various positions until 1996, when he accepted Air France’s offer to work as country director for Hungary. In 2000, Roche relocated to Rio de Janeiro to take up the post in charge of the city and north Brazil.
In 2003, he returned to France as intercontinental markets director for Air France Cargo and, from 2005 until 2011, as vice president for Air France-KLM Cargo, covering France, Africa, West Indies, Indian Ocean and Pacific.
He was also general manager for Korea before taking up his new role.
